Netiquette Network etiquette, or the set of informal rules of behavior that have evolved in cyberspace, includes the Internet and online services.
Network A network is basically a series of wires and cables that connects a number of computers. Data is exchanged between computers via these cables.
Newbie Anyone who is new to the web and Internet.
Newsgroups Also referred to as Usenets; consists of messages posted on electronic bulletin boards. Each board has a theme and there are tens of thousands of newsgroups concerning every imaginable topic. Many cover professional subjects and societies and are rich sources of business information.
Nilson Report A trade journal for the credit card industry.
Non-Qualifying Rate The interchange rate that is incurred as the result of a transaction not meeting certain minimum requirements.
Non-Qualifying Transaction Usually describes a transaction that was manually entered in a non-AVS MOTO environment, or a transaction that was not submitted into the interchange system within the specified amount of time.

Order Management System Functioning system that takes orders and processes them through shipment of goods.

Page Impression

 

 

A page impression occurs every time someone using the Internet displays a particular web page.

Partial Shipments Merchant shipping any less than complete customer order.
Payment Systems The financial systems that create the means for transferring funds between supplier and consumer, usually by exchanging debits or credits between financial institutions.
PID Personal Information Destination is “your needle in the haystack.” There are millions of pages of information on the web, but if you are looking for a specific item, there is only one page that contains exactly the information you need. That’s your PID.
PIN Personal Identification Number. A security code entered by the cardholder at the point of sale.
Plug-Ins Third party add-on software that adds new features to a commercial application (i.e.: many companies have written plug-ins for Netscape Navigator).
Pop-Up Ads These ads open up a new browser window with the advertiser’s message in it. To return to the destination web site it is necessary to close the pop-up window.
POS (Point of Sale) The merchant location where a customer makes a purchase.
POS Terminal A point of sale terminal that is connected to a central computer for authorization, transmitting and recording a payment transaction.
Post-Order Confirmation Order confirmation sent via e-mail after order has been shipped.
PPP Point to Point Protocol is the language that enables a computer to use telephone lines and a modem to connect to the Internet.
Presentment The process of forwarding data from an Issuer to an Acquirer to obtain a chargeback.
Principal Member A bank or other financial institution that participates as a member of VISA/MasterCard. Principal members are issued a unique BIN number (VISA) or ICA number (MasterCard).
Private Label A credit card that is issued in a merchant’s name (i.e., a department store credit card or a non-bank credit card) and is only accepted at the issuing merchant’s establishment.
Processor The processor is basically the brain of the PC, which carries out all of the low level processing that the PC needs to do.
PSRF A qualified VISA interchange rate that is mag stripe read and entered into interchange within 48 hours of the sale transaction.
Purchasing Card A card designed to help companies control authorization, tracking and reconciliation of smaller employee purchases. When an employee purchases goods or services, the purchasing card transaction sends both standard transaction data and accounting information back to the corporation.
